Cat Beards: Cat Required, Facial Hair Optional

Cat Beard

Cat Beards are a thing now. Images of cat owners positioning their felines strategically to make it look like they had a beard have gone viral over the past few days and the trend is still going strong.

Cat Bearding had its humble beginnings around a year ago when one cat owner decided to take a picture with his pet looking like his beard on catasters Tumblr. The rest, as they say, is history–until the next best or funniest viral thing comes along. You can hit the break for a clip featuring the best of the best cat beards posted on the interwebs so far.

Enjoy and have a cat-tastic weekend!

DARPA’s Web Warrior Support System Helps Soldiers Hoist Heavy Loads

It’s not as exciting as seeing Big Dog or Petman in action, but infantry in the US Army should be happy now that DARPA’s begun testing its Warrior Web support system. One day robotic exoskeletons will allow humans to easily lift and carry hundreds of kilograms, but DARPA has set its sights on a more immediately achievable goal with what could be described as the future of supportive undergarments. Bing Me Up? Check Out Bing’s Interactive Star-Trek Themed Search Results

Bing Star Trek Search

Google has always known as the search engine giant, but is its stranglehold slowly slipping away? Bing is on the rise as it accounts for 25.6 percent of the search results in the US. Perhaps in a bid to further cement their popularity (and following Google’s footsteps somewhat with interactive search), Bing has unveiled interactive Star Trek-themed search results that’ll beam you up to a different galaxy on the interwebs. Or should I say, Bing you up?

Just type in “Beam me up” on Bing.com’s homepage and you can see what I’m talking about for yourself.

Searching with the simple command as your query will transport you to Star Trek’s transporter room with the franchise’s iconic sound effects and visuals in the background. At the transporter you’ll find themed animations and links to trivia related to Star Trek, as well as links to other Bing pages featuring the Enterprise starship and its command bridge room.

The Electric Unicycle Is A Retro-modern One-Wheeled Take On The Segway

electric-unicycle

Looking a little bit like a 50′s Vespa mated with a 21st century robot, the Electric Unicycle is a lot like a Segway, except where it isn’t. It is a gyroscope-balanced personal mobility device with a 500W motor that can push a 160lbs man at 13mph for up to two hours on a three hour charge. But unlike the Segway, this one has one wheel. So while your forward and backward movements are gyro-controlled (and serve as the throttle), your side to side movements aren’t; you will have to have some sense of balance or you’ll fall. It shouldn’t be that hard though, and once you get the hang of it, you’re sure to get a lot of enjoyment out of your $ 2,700 expense.

Samsung may improve user-accessible internal storage of S4

Samsung Galaxy S4

After coming under criticism on BBC Watchdog for its lack of user-accessible internal storage on the Galaxy S4, Samsung has said that it is “reviewing the possibility to secure more memory space through further software optimisation.”

Speaking to CNET, Samsung said it is “committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs as part of our innovation process.”

Previously Samsung has defended the amount of internal storage that is taken up by the system install and preloaded apps, which equates to around 7GB out of an advertised 16GB, leaving 9GB available to the user. Samsung’s custom Android skin, TouchWiz, comes with a host of new features and this is the reason that so much of the internal storage is already in use out of the box.

It sounds as though Samsung may push an update out at some point that condenses the system files and therefore frees up more space for the user. How much this will equate to is as yet unclear, but needless to say even a small improvement will be welcome.
